Chapter 3
Present
Millie
The living room was pitch black, and the clock on the wall ticked loudly. I hadn't slept since I'd left the club earlier tonight pretending, I was too tired. My head was pounding with a headache and my thoughts kept returning to tonight's revelation. It had been Trevor all along. The familiarity I'd felt when I'd been at the club hadn’t been my mind playing tricks on me or a coincidence. Had he planned everything himself even tonight? It hadn't seemed rehearsed. Holly had been genuinely surprised and apologetic. I needed answers, and right now I wished I'd stay and confronted him face to face.
My phone was within reaching distance on the coffee table. Could I text him this late? I most definitely could. He was the reason for all of this.
Me: Hey, are you sleeping?
I pulled the blanket tight around me. It wasn't cold, but I was shivering.
Trevor: No, I'm working a bit.
Me: At the club?
Had he continued to the next willing member after me? I didn't know what to make of his side-profession, and I'd never thought I'd had to consider becoming part of this type of lifestyle. I'd only just embarked on my sexual education.
Trevor: No, at home, sweetheart. I'm so sorry that you had to find out this way. I never meant to lie to you.
Me: Then why not just tell me right away? You had my contact information. Or at least you could have told me on the night of your house-warming.
Trevor: I was a jerk. I wanted you to myself, and I didn't know if you wanted me the same way? Especially if you knew about the clubs.
Me: I don't know what to answer. I was so in love with you when I was 16.
Trevor: And I mean it, I loved you too. But my life was so fucked up. Or my dad's expectations to whom I ought to be.
Me: You were just gone without a word.
Trevor: He didn't give me a chance to say goodbye. That day I promised I'd pay him back every penny he thought I owed him. I worked my ass off through college to pay my debt to him. A few years after I'd graduated, I paid the sum in total. Haven't talked to him since.
Me: Wow, Trevor, I didn't know it was that bad. But still, you could have reached out to me.
Trevor: Yeah, I could and should have, but I'd ventured down the crazy road of owning a sex club in London, with my mate, James. And my life was not exactly how it is today.
Me: What do you mean?
Trevor: I indulged in all the pleasures of Piacere.
Me: Oh...
Trevor: Yeah, oh, not exactly boyfriend material, baby.
Me: OK, point taken. But what about now?
Trevor: If I'm boyfriend material now?
Me: Yes, can you leave the pleasures of Piacere behind you?
Trevor: If I can please you instead. UR all I think about.
Me: I think I'm falling for you again. I may never have fallen out of love. Is it crazy to feel like this for someone you barely know?
Trevor: I don't know.
